Fishing in Costa Rica

For fishing in Costa Rica you have a wide variety of places, most of these are considered the best places for fishing in Costa Rica. Waters of Flamingo beach, Tambor, Quepos and Manuel Antonio, Osa and Tamarindo are favorite places for fishing in Pacific Ocean.

Atlantic Ocean in the Caribbean offer some hot spots for fishing in Costa Rica. Here you can find some fishes like Snook, barracuda, spanish mackarel, grouper, snaper and kingfish. Rivers and canals in Caribbean coast are lined with rain forest, great for a complete natural experience. Fishng in Caribbean of Costa Rica can result in the best tarpon and snook fishing in the world.

Most sportfishing tours services belive in catch and release program for Sailfish as for Marlin. It works this way; the fish is hooked by the mouth, in the forward area, this way, the uninjured fish jumps and fight more and longer. Since the fish has not swallowed the bait yet a tired but healthy fish can be released.

Pacific Waters

It doesn't matter if you are at North, Central or South Pacific Waters, Marlin can be cought throught the whole year, best period is november to March (summer in CR). Sailfish and Tuna also year around but peaking between August and early November. In addition to these species there are also plenty dorado, roosterfish and wahoo. Jaco Beach Beach, Quepos, Tamarindo and Golfito are hot spots for fishing in Costa Rica.

CARIBBEAN WATERS

Tarpon fish can be easily caught during dry season (November to early May). Snook and fat snook are abundant year around, usually peak March to May. Billfish is out, in deep waters, most are caught between January and August, also a great number of dorado, kingfish, barracuda and wahoo in this season. Hot spot for fishing and favorite for tourist all over the world as well for costaricans is Puerto Viejo.
